Our Story
After our experience with our dog, we became passionate about helping other dogs live longer and healthier lives
Let’s face it, our dogs are as much a part of our family as our humans. Our story begins with our beautiful German Shepherd, Maverick. Maverick was 2 1/2 when we welcomed him into our home via rescue. One year later he was diagnosed with lymphoma. We were referred to the Animal Cancer and Imaging Center (ACIC) in Canton, Michigan. Through our experience with ACIC we learned that lymphoma is the most common cancer in animals. We also learned that there is evidence that diet plays a large part in this. We elected to have Maverick’s cancer treated and agreed that his quality of life was the most important thing. Maverick responded well to the treatment and we were blessed to have him for 4 additional years. He died at 7 1/2 years of age—much too young. He has been gone since 2012 and we still miss him every day.
Since this time we have been on a mission to find the best food for our dogs. There are so many choices of kibble, none of them great. Some are better than others, but there are so many things in commercial dog food that our dogs don’t need.
Along our journey, we met a woman who shows German Shepherds and shared that she feeds raw and her dogs are gorgeous and healthy. We started digging in and found that raw is most definitely the way to go. Primarily because we control what’s being fed.
